Utility trenching

Utility trenching is the work Jones EarthWorks is built around: trenches for water service lines, sewer lines and electrical conduit to a new home, a shop, a barn or a well. We dig to the depth the line and the inspector need, keep the trench clean and straight, and backfill in lifts so the ground doesn’t settle into a ditch next spring.

  • Water service and yard hydrant lines
  • Sewer lines from the house to the tank or the main
  • Electrical conduit to shops, barns, gates and wells
  • Trenches for new construction and add-on buildings
  • Locates called in through Colorado 811 before we dig

Excavation & site prep

Comprehensive site preparation to get your project started right: clearing the site, stripping topsoil, digging for footings and foundations, and setting the site up for the next trade. On the plains that usually means bare, open ground and a lot of wind, so we plan where spoil goes and how the site will drain before the first bucket.

  • Site clearing and topsoil stripping
  • Footing and foundation excavation
  • Over-excavation and backfill where the soil calls for it
  • Spoil piles placed for reuse or hauled off
  • Residential and light commercial sites

Septic & sewer site work

Out here most homes are on septic, and every septic job starts with dirt work. We trench sewer lines and handle excavation for septic projects. Every septic system in Colorado is permitted by the county health department and designed from a soil evaluation, so the permit and the design set the depth, the location and the setbacks before anything is dug. Call and tell us what your project needs; we’ll tell you straight what we can take on.

  • Sewer line trenching from the house to the tank
  • Excavation for septic projects
  • Digging soil profile test pits for your designer or soil tech
  • Backfill and final grading over the work
  • Work built to the permit the county issues

Basements

Egress window excavation

Adding a basement bedroom usually means adding an egress window, and that means a hole beside the foundation. We dig it out, haul the spoil, and leave the well area backfilled and graded so water runs away from the house instead of into the well.

  • Excavation beside the foundation
  • Gravel for drainage in the well area
  • Backfill and grade away from the house
  • Spoil hauled off

Sheds · slabs · brush

Demolition & land clearing

Demolition and clearing come before most new work: an old slab where a shop is going, a collapsed outbuilding, a fence line, brush and debris across a lot. We take it out, load it up and leave the ground ready to grade.

  • Concrete removal
  • Small-structure demolition
  • Brush and debris clearing
  • Haul-off of demolition material

GradeGrading, driveways & drainage

Homes · shops · barns

Grading & pad preparation

A good pad is the cheapest insurance a building will ever have. We build and grade pads for homes, shops, barns, containers and garages, set to the elevations your plans call for, and grade the ground around them to shed water. Around existing homes we regrade yards so water moves away from the foundation.

  • Pads for homes and additions
  • Finish grading around new and existing homes
  • Regrading to move water away from foundations
  • Gravel aprons and work yards

Gravel driveways

Long gravel driveways are a fact of life east of Aurora. We build new ones and repair old ones: cutting out ruts and washboard, reshaping the crown so water runs off instead of down the middle, and adding base and surface gravel where it’s worn thin.

  • New gravel driveway installation
  • Rut, pothole and washboard repair
  • Reshaping the crown and ditches
  • Base and surface gravel
  • Turnarounds and parking areas

French drains · water control

Drainage solutions

Water that sits against a foundation, ponds in a driveway or cuts a gully across a yard has to be sent somewhere. We install French drains, shape swales, build rock drainage beds and regrade so water moves off and away, which matters even more on the clay soils common on the Front Range plains.

  • Rock drainage beds and splash areas
  • Downspout and surface water control

Driveway crossings

Culvert installation

Where a driveway crosses a ditch, a culvert keeps the water moving and the driveway in one piece. We set culverts on a proper bed at the right grade, backfill and cover them, and shape the ditch on both ends. If your driveway meets a county road, the county usually has rules for the crossing; we’ll help you check before we dig.

  • Ditch crossings on acreage
  • Replacing crushed or plugged culverts
  • Ditch shaping at the inlet and outlet

STA PRICEPricing

A price after we see the ground.

Access, soil, depth, haul-off and what’s buried all change a dirt job. We walk the site, explain the work in plain words and give you the price before we start. No dollar figures over the phone that the ground won’t back up.

STA SAFEBefore anyone digs

811, every time.

Colorado 811 marks the utilities before we dig. Tell us about any line you installed yourself, like power or water to a barn or a well, because those usually aren’t marked. If sewage is backing up into the house, stop using water, keep people and pets away and call.
